In 2008/2009, ASPIRA Broward served 377 at-risk youth through 13 Broward County Schools and Community Centers. Our offices are located at the City of Miramar Civic Center 6920 SW 35th Street, Miramar, Florida 33023. We receive funding from agencies such as Department of Children and Families, United Way of Broward Commission of Substance Abuse, City of Hollywood CDBG, Friends of Children, Broward Community Foundation, Jim Moran Foundation, among other funding sources.
ASPIRA Broward provided a numerous amount of activities, workshops, conferences, and community events. Please see Broward News to learn about the success of the events.
Some of our accomplishments include:
- Served 36% more students than last fiscal year
- 99.5% youth served stayed in school and were promoted to the next level
- 0% dropped out of school
- 100% High School Seniors graduated
- 94% Hight School graduates enrolled into a post-secondary educational institution, and the rest of the seniors (6%) 1 enlisting in the Fire Academy, 1 in the Air force, and 1 in the workforce.
- Through the Summer Program we provided services to 40 students free of charge
- First ASPIRA Broward College Club
- A State College Tour to University of South Florida and New College of Florida.
- Numerous Media/Publications
- The Broward Local Advisory Council went from 3 to 11 active members
- Creation of a Signature Painting "Aspirantes" by Elizabeth Baez-Erazo
